These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are the agreement between you and Clara AI (“Clara AI”, “we”, “us”, “our”). They cover the Clara AI app for iPhone, the companions and their voices, Clara Voice, the Clara Plus subscription, and the clara-ai.app website — together, the “Service”. They include the licence that lets you install and use the app.

Please read them. By creating an account or using any part of the Service, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your information. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

The short version

  • The companions are fictional characters. Everything they say is generated by AI in the moment, spoken by a synthetic voice, and never reviewed by a person before you hear it.
  • Clara AI is for companionship, practice and entertainment. It is not medical, mental-health, legal or financial advice, and it is not a way to get help in an emergency.
  • You need an account (Sign in with Apple or Google) and you must be 18 or older.
  • The free plan includes 10 replies a day. Clara Plus is an auto-renewing monthly subscription billed by Apple, which you can cancel at any time in your App Store settings.
  • What you say stays yours. We use it to run the Service for you and for nothing else, and we never use it to train AI.
  • You can delete your account, and everything attached to it, from Settings whenever you want.

This summary is here to be useful, not binding — the sections below are the actual agreement.

1. Who we are and what these Terms cover

The Service is operated by Clara AI from Dhaka, Bangladesh. You can reach us at any time at support@clara-ai.app.

These Terms apply to every part of the Service: the app, the companions and their voices, Clara Voice, the Clara Plus subscription, and this website. For the app, these Terms replace Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement; section 20 contains the additional terms Apple requires. Where these Terms and the Privacy Policy overlap on how we handle your information, the Privacy Policy governs.

2. Who may use Clara AI

You must be at least 18 years old — or older, if that is the age of majority where you live — to use the Service. Clara AI is not designed for, marketed to, or intended for children, and we do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to hold an account. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it.

You also confirm that you are not barred from using the Service under the laws that apply to you, that you are not located in a country subject to a comprehensive embargo by the United States, and that you are not listed on any applicable restricted-party list.

To use the app you need an iPhone running iOS 17 or later, an internet connection, and an Apple Account or Google Account to sign in with. Your carrier’s data charges may apply.

3. Your account

Talking with a companion requires an account, which you create with Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. We never see or store a password.

  • Your account is personal. Do not share it, sell it, or let anyone else use it, and keep control of the Apple or Google account behind it.
  • One account per person. Creating extra accounts, or deleting and re-creating an account, to reset a free allowance is not allowed — and does not work.
  • Tell us promptly at support@clara-ai.app if you think someone else is using your account.
  • Signed-in sessions last up to 180 days, so from time to time you may be asked to sign in again.
  • You can sign out at any time in Settings. Signing out also removes your conversations, companion roles and “About you” note from that iPhone, so that another account cannot see them. Deleting your account is described in section 15.

4. What Clara AI is — and what it is not

Clara AI is a voice-first companion app. You hold a button, speak, and a fictional animated character answers out loud. Clara, Luna, Hana, Rei and Iris are characters we created. They are not real people; they are not therapists, teachers, doctors or professionals of any kind; and they have no knowledge of you beyond what you choose to tell them.

Everything a companion says is generated by an AI language model in the moment and spoken by a synthetic voice. No human writes, checks or approves a reply before you hear it. Any resemblance a reply may have to a real person, event or professional opinion is coincidental.

5. Emergencies, crisis and wellbeing

The Service is not an emergency, crisis or health service, and the companions cannot help you in an emergency. If you are in danger, in crisis, or thinking about harming yourself or anyone else, stop using the app and contact your local emergency number or a crisis line in your country right away, or reach out to a qualified professional or someone you trust.

The Wellness guide role shares general, widely accepted wellbeing information only. It does not diagnose, treat, prescribe, or replace care from a real healthcare professional. Nothing in the Service — in any role — is medical, mental-health, legal, financial or other professional advice, and you should not act on it as though it were.

6. AI-generated replies

AI models make mistakes. Despite the safeguards we build in, a reply may be inaccurate, outdated, incomplete, biased, nonsensical, or simply wrong while sounding confident, and two identical questions may get different answers. You accept that:

  • you are responsible for how you use, act on, or share anything a companion tells you, and for checking anything that matters;
  • replies are not facts, promises or advice from us, and we do not endorse them;
  • we may change, tune or replace the underlying AI models, voices and safeguards at any time, which will change how the companions sound and behave; and
  • the same or similar replies may be generated for other people, so replies are not exclusive to you.

7. Roles and personalisation

You can give a companion a role — Companion, Teacher, Language tutor, Wellness guide, or a Custom role written by you — and an optional “About you” note so replies feel personal. These instructions steer the character, and you are responsible for what you write in them.

Custom roles and notes must respect the rules of use. Do not use a role, a note, or any other instruction to try to strip the companions of their safeguards, to make them impersonate a real, identifiable person, or to produce content these Terms prohibit. We may refuse or stop a request that attempts it.

The Language tutor role listens and speaks in the language you choose, as far as Apple’s speech recognition and our voice providers support it. For some languages the companion speaks with your iPhone’s built-in voice instead of her own.

8. Your content and the licence you give us

Your side of a conversation stays yours. You keep every right you already have in the words you speak, the notes you write and the roles you create (“your content”).

To make the Service work, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, transmit, process and adapt your content for the sole purposes of operating, securing and supporting the Service — including sending it to the AI and speech providers who generate the reply and its audio, and keeping the Service safe from abuse. This licence exists only to run the Service for you and ends when your content does. Who the providers are, and how long anything is kept, is set out in the Privacy Policy.

We do not use your conversations to train AI models. If you send us feedback, ideas or suggestions, you allow us to use them freely to improve the Service, without any obligation to you.

9. Rules of use

When you use the Service, you agree not to:

  • break the law, infringe anyone’s rights, or use the Service to harm, harass, threaten, defraud, stalk or defame anyone;
  • seek or attempt to generate sexual content involving minors, or any content that sexualises, endangers or exploits a minor — this is an absolute prohibition; accounts that attempt it are closed immediately and may be reported to the authorities;
  • attempt to generate content that promotes self-harm, terrorism or violent extremism, or sexual violence, or that gives instructions for making weapons or synthesising harmful substances;
  • impersonate someone else, or provide another person’s personal information without the right to do so;
  • probe, scan, disrupt or overload the Service, or gain or attempt to gain unauthorised access to it, to other accounts, or to its infrastructure;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or tamper with the app except to the limited extent the law expressly permits, or scrape, resell, sublicense or redistribute access to the Service;
  • circumvent allowances, metering, rate limits, subscription checks or any other technical limit — including by using multiple accounts, automated tools or scripts;
  • use the Service or its output to build, train or evaluate a competing AI model, voice or product; or
  • use the Service in a way that misleads people into thinking a companion is a real person or a licensed professional.

We have no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour towards the Service or the people who run it. We may apply rate limits, refuse a request, or pause the Service to protect it and the people who use it.

10. Plans, replies and fair use

Access is measured in completed replies — never in minutes. A reply counts once a companion has actually produced an answer; a failed, empty or interrupted attempt does not count, and retrying the same turn never charges you twice.

  • Free: 10 completed replies per day, in the Light response mode. The day is a UTC calendar day; the app shows when your allowance refills.
  • Clara Plus: 500 completed replies per calendar month (UTC), with the Light, Medium and Expert response modes, of which up to 80 replies per month may use Expert. When the Expert allowance is used up, replies continue in Medium.
  • Clara Voice (the companions’ own voices) has its own allowance, measured in spoken characters: currently 2,000 characters for every reply in your plan, which is 20,000 characters a day on Free and 1,000,000 a month on Clara Plus. If it is exhausted, or Clara Voice is briefly unavailable, your companion keeps talking using your iPhone’s built-in voice.
  • Allowances do not roll over, are not transferable, have no cash value, and are subject to rate limits and the rules in section 9.
  • Response modes describe quality tiers that we choose and tune. We do not promise any particular underlying model, provider, speed or availability.
  • To keep the Service sustainable we also run a Service-wide daily capacity limit. In rare cases replies and Clara Voice may pause until the next UTC day; your allowance is not charged while they do.

Access is authorised on our servers. The meter you see in the app reflects your account’s server-side state, and if the two ever disagree the server is correct.

11. Clara Plus

Clara Plus is an auto-renewing monthly subscription sold through the Apple App Store.

  • Price and billing. The current price for your region is always shown in the app and on the App Store before you confirm. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation. We never see or handle your payment details.
  • Renewal. The subscription renews automatically each month at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
  • Cancelling. Manage or cancel at any time in your App Store subscription settings — Settings in the app links you straight there. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Plus until the end of the period you already paid for.
  • Failed payments. If Apple cannot collect a renewal, Apple may retry for a period of days. We may keep Plus active for a short time while that happens; if payment ultimately fails, Plus ends and your account returns to the free plan.
  • Free trials and introductory offers, if we ever offer one, convert to a paid subscription at the end of the offer period unless you cancel first. Any unused part of an offer is forfeited if you purchase a subscription early.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple’s policies. We generally cannot issue refunds ourselves, though we will always try to help — write to us and we will do what we can. Nothing here limits any statutory refund or withdrawal right you have where you live.
  • Restoring a purchase. You can restore an active subscription on a new device or on a different Clara AI account. Because Plus usage follows the subscription, restoring also moves that month’s used replies with it.

12. Changes to the Service, plans and prices

We are actively building Clara AI and may add, change or remove features, characters, roles, voices, response modes and underlying models at any time. We may also change allowances or prices. If a change materially reduces what a paid plan includes, or increases the price of a subscription you hold, we will give you reasonable advance notice — in the app, by email, or on this page — so you can cancel before it takes effect. Continuing to pay after the notice period means you accept the change.

We may release updates to the app, and you may need to install an update to keep using the Service. We may also suspend or discontinue the Service in whole or in part, with reasonable notice where practicable.

13. The app licence and our intellectual property

We grant you a limited, personal, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to install and use the Clara AI app on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, and to use the website, for your own personal, non-commercial purposes, in line with the App Store Usage Rules. That is the whole of the licence: no other right is granted, expressly or by implication.

The Service, the Clara AI name and marks, the app, the website, and the characters — Clara, Luna, Hana, Rei and Iris, including their art, animations, voices, personalities, greetings and written personas — belong to us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property law. You may not copy, adapt, redistribute, publicly perform or commercially exploit the characters or any part of the Service, or use our names and marks, without our written permission. You may of course share your own conversations, including screenshots and recordings, for personal, non-commercial purposes.

14. Third-party services

The Service depends on companies we do not control: Apple (distribution, billing, sign-in and speech recognition), Google (sign-in), Cloudflare (hosting), and the AI and speech providers who generate replies and audio. Your use of the app is also subject to Apple’s Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, and speech recognition is handled under Apple’s own terms and privacy policy. We are not responsible for third-party services, and an outage or change at any of them may interrupt the Service. The current providers are listed in our Privacy Policy.

15. Suspension, termination and deletion

You can stop at any time: sign out, delete your account in Settings, or delete the app. Delete account in Settings erases your Clara AI account and its data on our servers and then clears your local data. Exactly what that removes, and the narrow records we must keep for billing integrity, is set out in the Privacy Policy. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription — cancel that separately in your App Store settings, or Apple will keep billing you.

We may suspend or terminate your access, with notice where reasonably practicable, if you materially or repeatedly breach these Terms, if your use exposes us or others to legal risk or harm, or if we are required to by law. For serious breaches — above all any attempt involving sexual content about minors — we may act immediately and without notice. If we terminate your access for any reason other than your breach of these Terms, we will support your request to Apple for a refund of any prepaid, unused part of your subscription.

The sections that by their nature should outlast this agreement do so, including section 8 (as to feedback), section 13, section 16, section 17, section 18, section 19 and section 21.

16. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted or error-free operation. We do not warrant that the Service will meet your needs, that replies will be accurate or appropriate, that a companion or a voice will be available, or that defects will be fixed.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here excludes rights you have under mandatory consumer law where you live.

17. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill or emotional distress, arising out of or relating to your use of or inability to use the Service — including anything a companion said to you or any decision you made because of it — even if we were advised that such damages were possible.

Our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim and USD 50.

These limits do not apply to liability that cannot lawfully be limited — such as our own fraud, or death or personal injury caused by our negligence — and some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

18. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, demand, loss or expense (including reasonable legal fees) brought by a third party and arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, or your content — including anything you wrote into a custom role or an “About you” note. This does not apply to the extent the claim results from our own wrongdoing, or where the law where you live does not permit it.

19. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Bangladesh, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and the courts of Dhaka, Bangladesh have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live, or of your right to bring proceedings in your local courts where the law gives you that right.

Before starting formal proceedings, please write to us at support@clara-ai.app and give us 30 days to resolve the problem with you. Most things can be sorted out this way, and we would much rather fix it than argue about it.

20. Terms required by Apple

The app is distributed through the Apple App Store, and Apple requires us to tell you the following:

  • These Terms are between you and Clara AI only, not Apple, and Apple is not a party to them. Clara AI, not Apple, is solely responsible for the app and its content.
  • The licence in section 13 is limited to a non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, except that the app may be accessed and used by other accounts associated with you via Family Sharing or volume purchasing where those are available.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app. Support requests go to support@clara-ai.app.
  • If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price for the app, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the app, and any other claim, loss, liability, damage, cost or expense attributable to a failure to conform to a warranty is our responsibility.
  • Clara AI, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to the app or your possession or use of it, including product-liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer-protection, privacy or similar law.
  • If a third party claims that the app infringes their intellectual property rights, Clara AI, not Apple, is responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
  • You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government restricted-party list.
  • You must comply with any applicable third-party terms when using the app, such as your carrier’s data agreement.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, once you accept them, may enforce them against you.

21. General

  • Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service and replace anything said before.
  • Severability. If a provision is found unenforceable, it is limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary and the rest stays in force.
  • No waiver. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we have not given it up.
  • Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours to an affiliate or in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, provided your rights are not reduced.
  • Force majeure. Neither of us is liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond reasonable control.
  • Notices. We may reach you in the app, on this website, or at the email address on your account. You reach us at support@clara-ai.app.
  • Language. These Terms are written in English. A translation is for convenience only; the English version governs.
  • No third-party rights, except for Apple as described in section 20.

22. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the Service evolves and as the law changes. The date at the top always shows the current version. If a change is material, we will give you notice — in the app, by email, or on this page — before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated Terms; if you do not, please stop using the Service and delete your account.
